A Fun and Rewarding Way to be of Service!

The usher four-member teams love to help. We like to help you find a place to sit. We like to help you find a service leaflet. We like to help you find your place in the service. We like to bring a toy to a restless child or tell you about a room to listen to the service while nursing your hungry baby. We like to help you find your way to Coffee Hour or the restrooms. But we provide other services, too.

We pass the collection plates at the appropriate time.  Afterwards we carry those plates and the bread and wine gifts to the front of the church to present to the celebrant for blessing. Later, we dismiss individual rows of worshipers for communion and help to see that “traffic” flows smoothly. We welcome newcomers with an explanation of the choices of “dip” or “sip” or maybe just a blessing at the communion rail.  We notify the rector if we see someone who is physically challenged and would like to receive communion in their pew. We take a head count. And when it’s all over, we straighten up by gathering discarded bulletins and replacing prayer books and hymnals back in their holders.

It sounds like a lot … but it’s not. And, for now, each team of four serves once a month. Interested?  Let me know.  Want to co-chair? Let me know that, too!! I can be reached through the church office.
