Find Yourself at Peterkin this Summer!
Parishioners Fran Simone and Mary Jo Thompson joined Jo at the Women’s Retreat at Peterkin in May
Decades ago, I had my first experience at Peterkin, the WV Diocese’s Conference Center in Romney, WV. I have continued to return, most recently to this year’s Women’s Retreat in May. I ask you to consider going to the Family Camp (individuals welcome) July 20 - 26 or sending a youngster in your family to one of the youth camps.
What should you expect? In my view, you will enter a different world where community is paramount. It is what is called a “thin space” where you enter a different reality. Check out the Peterkin web site https://www.wvdiocese.org/our-life-together/peterkin for information on the different camps; if you don’t feel you can financially swing it, contact St. John’s office for possible scholarships. The Rev. Eric Miller and wife Rosemary were counselors there and can attest to the value of this special place.
Some even make the Family Camp week their family reunion with relatives joining from multiple states. Here you won’t have to worry about fixing meals or planning activities; participants can be of any denomination or age. All six of our grandchildren experienced a loving church community where they could be themselves from kindergarten into their teen years. (BONUS: It also gave their parents a break and us the opportunity to bond.)
If you have questions about Peterkin, feel free to contact me through the church office. In our current crazy world, this place is one that makes sense.
