The Joyful and Celestial Sounds of St. John’s

The Joyful Sound: The St. Ambrose Choir Enriches Our Worship

Each Sunday, as the clock nears 10:30 a.m., a special kind of preparation fills St. John’s Episcopal Church. It is the sound of our worship being brought to life through music, led by the dedicated voices of the St. Ambrose Choir. As an integral part of our principal Sunday service, the choir provides a powerful and uplifting musical foundation that enhances our prayers, enriches our liturgy, and unites us as a congregation in praise.

From leading hymns and service music to offering beautifully prepared anthems, the St. Ambrose Choir serves as a spiritual anchor for our 10:30 a.m. Eucharist. Their commitment enables us to connect more deeply with the words of Scripture and the traditions of our faith. The music they provide is not simply a performance, but a heartfelt offering that magnifies the beauty and reverence of our shared worship experience.

Beyond their leadership on Sunday mornings, the choir members form a unique community of fellowship, bound by a shared love of music and a commitment to serving the church.

An Invitation to Join Our Song

Have you ever felt a calling to contribute to our worship in a musical way? Do you enjoy singing and the camaraderie of working with others towards a common goal? The St. Ambrose Choir extends a warm and welcoming invitation to all parishioners who are interested in joining this vital ministry.

We gather for rehearsal every Thursday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. This is a time of learning, fellowship, and preparing our musical offerings for the upcoming Sunday. If you have a passion for singing and a desire to serve, we encourage you to join us. All voice parts are welcome, and the ability to read music is helpful but not required—only a joyful heart and a willingness to learn.

Come and see what it’s like to be part of the music at St. John’s. We would be delighted to welcome you into our musical family.

A Celestial Sound: The St. John's Handbell Choir

On selected Sundays, a unique and shimmering sound adds a special dimension to our 10:30 a.m. worship service. It's the beautiful, resonant music of the St. John's Episcopal Church Handbell Choir. This dedicated group of ringers provides a truly celestial soundtrack for our liturgy, offering a range of pieces that span from meditative to joyous fanfares, which elevate our collective worship experience.

Playing handbells is a unique art form that relies on teamwork and fellowship. Each ringer is responsible for specific notes, and together, they weave individual sounds into a seamless, harmonious melody. It’s a wonderful metaphor for the church community itself—many individuals coming together to create one beautiful offering of praise.

An Invitation to Ring With Us!

Have you ever been captivated by the sound of handbells and wondered what it’s like to play? Now is your chance to find out! The St. John's Handbell Choir warmly invites anyone interested in joining this fun and rewarding ministry. No prior ringing experience is necessary.

We rehearse on Thursday nights from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. on the third floor of the church. If you have a basic ability to read music and can count, you have all the skills needed to begin. It's a wonderful opportunity to learn a new skill, enjoy fellowship, and contribute to the beauty of our worship services. We hope to see you there!
