Almost There...

Waiting on the finishing touches of our new kitchen reminds me of lengthy car trips with my family, one of us three children asking every fifty miles or so… ‘How much longer!?’ The answer was always the same: ‘We’re almost there, just a little longer.’

Appliances are installed, AC is on, and gas hook up is completed following the complicated hood and fire suppression system required for a commercial kitchen. Yes, we qualify as a ‘commercial kitchen’ due to our commercial building status. We now await the required inspection by the fire marshal who will give us the green light to use our range. Until then we are able to use the sinks, counters, walk-in cooler and dishwasher. Plans for a washer & dryer in one of the small rooms within the kitchen are being considered. We’re getting there!

You may have noticed that our first-floor bathrooms are under construction, starting with the Men’s. We are grateful for Ken Perraut’ and Greg Isaacs’ oversight of this long-awaited project. Plans include new walls, replacing the dated tile with sheetrock on top of waterproof bead board topped off with a chair rail. The new floor will resemble the laminate flooring in the hall, but in a soft grey color to set off the white walls. Asbury Construction has conveniently worked on one bathroom at a time to reduce inconvenience to us. Plans are in place for a smaller gender-neutral bathroom in the area between Eric’s office and the back stairway to be completed following the completion of the Women’s’ bath.

When was the last time you attended an old-fashioned shower? We are planning one for kitchen and bath needs for Sunday, August 17. Brian Hamra, our resident chef, and a small committee will post a “wish list/registry” for us so you won’t have to guess what’s needed. We’ll have some refreshments, but we promise (kind of) not to have games.

Stay tuned….!
