A Senior Moment

It is such an honor to be back on St. John’s vestry and be serving as your Senior Warden for 2024. Having said that I already miss the leadership of two-time Senior Warden, Mary Fitzgerald and her classmates, Donna Hamra and Austin Susman. Many thanks for their service over the last three years.

I last served on vestry eleven years ago during some challenging times in our church. More than a decade later it feels like home again here. New priest, new bishop, new paint, new parking lot (in the making) - all contributing to the excitement brewing at St. John’s these days. I applaud those of us who have been around to witness this transformation as well as those who have joined us along the way. Just this week everyone’s favorite meeting room on the second floor, Molly Warwick, was treated to new decor with a new stove and refrigerator on the way. There is new enthusiasm, more volunteering and better turn-out for parish activities.

As we wait patiently for our new rector please be thinking of ways we can shepherd each other during this transition. One idea I’ve been fantasizing about is a monthly “Just Lunch” potluck following the Wednesday eucharist or, even, on an alternate day. Do you have other ideas that might bring us together and might even serve as a way to welcome our new rector?
