St. John’s Book Group
We meet Wednesdays at 11 a.m. via Zoom. This read-aloud book group will soon begin reading Jon Meacham’s most recent biography, And There Was Light: Abraham Lincoln and the American Struggle.
Faith In Action
Faith in Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley is a volunteer organization providing free services to older adults in Kanawha and Putnam County.

Never had I heard that term before, although instinctively knew what it meant. But really – “cremains”?

As our interim rector, Chris Thompson, mentioned in his Ash Wednesday homily, Lent is a penitent season and one way we acknowledge this in our lives is by stopping, or adding, certain practices.

Lent is here. As in previous years, I am hurriedly spinning through ideas for my personal Lenten sacrifice. For me, it all started when I came to St. John’s just before Lent 2004.
Reading Camp 2023: Follow the Drinking Gourd
We are excited to confirm that (God willing and the creek don’t rise) we will be able to host Reading Camp at St. John’s again this year, after a hiatus for Covid. We are hard at work with our preparations and are once again thrilled with the cooperation we are receiving from our community. The week selected begins July 17, 2023.
What’s Cookin’ at Outreach
Our next Outreach meeting will be Sunday, March 12, at noon in the downstairs library. We will make plans to cook and serve dinner for the residents at Samaritan Inn. This will be our first outside project since Covid-19 and we are very excited about it.
A Note of Thanks
Our Shrove Tuesday dinner was very well attended and there was a plentiful bounty of goodies devoured. I want to thank these dedicated volunteers that assisted in the dinner.
Evangelism Corner: March
The Lenten season is upon us already! What shall we give up? I am never successful with elimination of something during this season. I begin with good intentions, and then well, the most perfect piece of something I decided to eliminate appears!
