Vestry Covenant

During our retreat in February, the Vestry developed a Covenant to guide our work together. In addition to sharing it with you here, it will be framed and hung in the hallway leading to the nave and in the administrative area.  

As members of St. John’s Vestry, we prayerfully agree to lead St. John’s by: 

Seeking to understand. 

Respectfully disagreeing when disagreements arise. 

Assuming the best intention. 

Actively praying for our Vestry, it’s work and members, our parish, our diocese, 

and the world. 

Allowing one person to speak at a time. 

Listening and speaking with clarity and love. 

Speaking with one voice once a decision is reached. 

Saying what needs to be said during our meetings without parking lot conversations. 

Not taking ourselves too seriously, and laughing often. 

Acknowledging we may get some things wrong, seek forgiveness and move 

forward in love. 

Asking for a moment of silence when things become too emotional. 

Arriving on time and ending on time.
