Reading Camp Ramps Up for 2025

Why do we have Reading Camp? To share God’s love within our community and our love of reading with children. Our first and foundational job is to find campers! We’ve received applications from 5 returning campers, representing 3 different schools. In the next week, Jeannine Boothe will be picking up new camper applications from two of our biggest schools, West Side Elementary and Bridgeview, and this year Ruthlawn has asked to send more of its students. It’s an exciting time as abstract planning becomes flesh and blood—meeting the children who will come to camp and their parents.

Some campers need help with transportation, which we provide, and it becomes an integral part of their camp experience. Patty Sims and Mary Jo Thompson, two of last years transportation volunteers, can attest to how meaningful this time can be, for volunteers, campers, and families. If you’re able to help by bringing a few campers to camp in the morning and/or returning them home in the evening, please let us know.

Please pray for the campers that will be coming to us. It takes a village to put camp together, and St. John’s, along with our sister church in this effort St. Christopher’s, is that village. Please let Margaret, Jeannine, or Melinda know if you’d like to help by contacting the church office.
