Restoring the Shine: Altar Brass Renewed

Left: The cross before refinishing (in the photo with Fr. Eric) and after (in a close-up).

Through the 45 years of being a  preacher’s wife, I’ve found myself refinishing brass because the glow is so appropriate to our altars.

After getting permission from Karon Meyer, Altar Guild Directress, I decided to give it a whirl and found that both the brass and I were too far gone to reach the goal.

I heard that Brass Masters of Huntington had moved to Ashland, KY. I contacted them about our old and very lovely brass and so our journey began.

After several trips to Ashland, we have our brass back to glowing.  A few more pieces are still to be done, and the improved finish will last for many years.

It has been my joy and privilege to help get it completed.

(The Altar Guild is extremely supportive and thankful for Mary Jo Thompson’s initiative to restore our brass pieces to former glory!  Please take note and look closely at the altar cross and the candlesticks.)
