Acolyte Ministry at St. John’s Episcopal Church
The acolyte ministry at St. John’s is one of the most visible and meaningful ways members of our congregation can serve. As co-acolyte master, I have the privilege of helping guide and grow this ministry—and it is a role I cherish deeply.
For me, serving as an acolyte is a calling that began when I was eleven years old and continued well into my late teens. That experience never truly left me, and returning to this ministry as an adult has been a natural and fulfilling continuation of something that has long felt like part of my faith identity.
What I love most about this ministry is its service to others—being present, being useful, and helping make Episcopal worship reverent and whole. There is something deeply meaningful about knowing that the way we carry a torch, present the Gospel Book, or hold a cross can help shape the spiritual experience of an entire congregation.
I also find great joy in watching others grow into the role—learning the rhythms of the liturgy, gaining confidence in their service, and discovering their own sense of calling.
And to anyone wondering, adults are absolutely encouraged and welcome to acolyte. This ministry belongs to all of us. I invite you to join our acolyte team and watch as your engagement and faith in Christ grows.
