A Call to Sing: The St. Ambrose Choir Needs You
As we enter this new liturgical season at St. John’s Episcopal Church, I am writing to you with an important appeal. The St. Ambrose Choir is looking to expand our ranks. To be completely transparent: we don’t just want more singers; we truly need more voices to join us in leading our congregation in worship.
We are looking for singers of all abilities, voice types, and experience levels. Whether you have been singing in choirs for decades or simply love to sing, there is a place for you here.
To help bolster our sound, we are currently seeking two high school-aged choral scholars who will be paid seasonally. We are also looking to fill two paid section leader positions—one tenor and one soprano. While these specific positions are important, we absolutely still need additional volunteer singers from our parish family to fill out our ranks and create a complete, joyful sound.
The music ministry is not a performance; it is a vital pillar of our liturgy. Through our anthems, hymns, and service music, the choir helps elevate the prayers of the congregation, deepen our collective worship experience, and bring the liturgy to life. Singing in the choir is a profound way to offer your time and talents back to God.
Scripture repeatedly reminds us of the spiritual power and necessity of lifting our voices together. As the Psalmist writes:
“O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.” — Psalm 95:1
And in the New Testament, we are called to encourage one another through music:
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” — Colossians 3:16
Perhaps you have felt that stirring to sing but have been holding back. If you would love to join us but have reasons for hesitating, please reach out so we can talk about it. If your schedule is the primary concern, let me know! For instance, would a Sunday rehearsal at 2:00 p.m. work better for you than a Thursday evening? I am incredibly open to finding solutions that allow our community’s voices to be heard.
