Moving Right Along…

It seems that just when you think there’s a lull in activity at St. John’s there is suddenly much to report…and to celebrate!

Our long-awaited kitchen equipment has arrived and is due to be installed beginning Wednesday, June 4. This couldn’t be happening at a better time, given our recent success with several parish-wide offerings outside of Sunday morning which usually involves cooking and/or eating together. Our latest purely fun opportunity for fellowship was Game Night which was a huge success. Please stay tuned for a celebratory kitchen ‘shower’ as well as some instruction from Junior Warden, Brian Hamra, and co-chair of Congregational Life, for the new appliances in the kitchen. I think we’ll need a kitchen calendar, right!?

You may have noticed that the rain garden (aka the island in the parking lot) has been filled with compost and some new plants. We have Tom Vasale, former city landscape director and owner of Tom’s Word, to thank for his recommendations and numerous visits to our site. Thanks to Mary Fitzgerald and Ken Perraut who, along with me, planted 17 shrubs across the rain garden. Steppingstones for the center walk-through are on their way - they’re just so darn heavy!

Next up on the property improvement list are the first-floor bathrooms. Without gutting the bathrooms, the Vestry has been considering bids for retiling the floors, painting the walls and the metal cubicles among other cosmetic improvements. In the near future we are considering creating a gender-neutral bathroom in the space to the left of Eric’s office and under the stairway there. It appears that it was once a bathroom and, with a little bit of work, will validate our church as the inclusive, safe space we are.

It’s an exciting time for St. John’s! Tell your friends…
