From the Archives: The Baptismal Font

The beautiful baptismal font located to the right of the altar rail was donated by the Clarkson family (circa 2021) in memory of their son, James Wood Clarkson (1896-1920). In his obituary it is stated that James had been attending the University of Pittsburgh when he became ill and died on October 11, 1920, at the age of 24 at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

The base and basin are of marble, and the top edge is engraved with the following: “One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism.” On the circular brass mount at the base of the cross, is written: “His memory is a blessed heritage to all who knew and loved him,” and “Take unto you the whole armour of God.”
