Handbell Choir

The Handbell Choir in performance.

St. John's Handbell Choir has been in existence for at least 25 years, maybe more.

It just always seems to have been around. The ringers have great fun! For many years they rehearsed year-round, but now they play seasonally, always at Christmas and again in the Easter season. They play some music that is easy, some that is a little difficult and some that is very challenging.

The music covers a wide range, including folk tunes, hymn tunes, music originally composed for bells, music that is meditative and music that is joyful.

The Handbell Choir rehearses at 5:30 p.m. on the three Mondays and three Thursdays during the weeks before playing for a worship service. All rehearsals are on the third floor of the parish house, which is easily reached by elevator.

For anyone who ever said "I wish my mother had not let me quit music lessons," this is the perfect group to become a part of. All that is required is a bit of music reading and a sense of humor!
